So hard to believe August is upon us already. With the summer flying by I will be getting ready to attend the pet social media conference BlogPaws and will be celebrating DFTP's 2nd year at the end of September. So to kick off August with a WOOF, I wanted to continue the quest to reach as many people across the country as possible to inspire and educate them on the need of shelter and rescue pets. Since I am able to create any type of design or artwork I want, I decided a cool simple graphic series was the perfect choice. I am a big fan of artist's Shepard Fairey's work, you might best know him from the famous Obama HOPE poster that Shepard created and then was arrested for plagerism of the photo he worked from.
I picked out some simple words and phrases such as Rescue, Adopt, Love a Senior, Chaining dogs etc...to work into the different designs. Shepard has a very cool, clean style that I used as the design base. The finished pieces are really fun and pop off the page.
Using a simple palette of red, grey, black and browns I've created a series of images I am calling the "WOOF and MEOW Series". Believe it or not, we have a big following of kitty lovers too so wanted to give them something to enjoy as well. I used some of the Paws Pack dogs from the project along with a couple of Facebook dog Buddies too. I want this series to engage and draw attention to the issues of helping animals in need. I hope with the bold graphics and colors they will draw attention to the different issues related to helping pets in need...from chained pets to the plight of senior pets being dropped off at shelters on a daily basis.
I wasn't sure how people would react to them since they are illustrated so differently from the Paws Pack. But to my surprise, they are catching peoples' attention and others are posting and sharing them on their sites and blogs. So keeping it simple is a good rule to follow when you want to make a statement and engage your audience. I hope you will stop by our Facebook Fan page and check the series out and all the great people who post and share our project. It's a wonderful group and we have a really good time working to make a difference for animals in need. Enjoy!!
You can come and WOOF with us on our Facebook Fan page

Those are awesome! I love them. Are they going to be made available as "bumper stickers"?
ReplyDeleteIs the Woof Nation poster Nico?
ReplyDeleteThese are really great designs. I would love to feature these and the cat ones, if those are done on Pet Blogs United. I hope you remember meeting my mom Pam at BlogPaws.
